At the time of writing, the North Korean government is once-again threatening war with its neighbor to the South and the devil country across the Pacific. Precautions are being taken by the U.S. military force despite South Korean Defense Minister assuring that no ballistic missiles are aimed at the U.S. mainland. Whether or not Kim Jong-un is serious about starting World War III hasn’t stop American warmongers from displaying their lust for combat.
As if the people of North Korea don’t already have enough to worry about. Their crazed government revels in boogeyman scare tactics while forcing citizens to live under communist tyranny. North Koreans barely have enough to eat. They have resorted to cannibalism as Kim Jong-un spends billions on a bloated military and lavish celebrations of state fealty. In other words, the North Korean state operates like a traditional government but at a more oppressive degree.
It’s likely that Kim Jong-un’s recent spat in hubris is all sound and furry. The Pyongyang regime likes to puff out its chest every now and again to prove its own might. We know from the work of Mises that socialism inevitably fails. Given enough time, the North Korean economy will collapse just like the Soviet Union. Jong-un’s is not intimidating the empire with his cowboy bravado, he is emboldening it. To avoid war, all the U.S. government has to do is withdraw its troops stationed in South Korea and stop its own displays of bullish might. Of course, peace and tranquility is not want governments want. The ruling class simply wants to keep the loot coming without question. The North Korean regime is undeniably evil, but so is every state that threatens to obliterate the innocent in the name of global hegemony disguised as democractic freedom. Peace comes with free trade – not bullying the planet. That’s a lesson Washington is in great need to learn.
