As the only Canadian educator in the field of Austrian Economics Mises Canada has dedicated itself to raising awareness of this discipline, and providing affordable classes and seminars to students across the continent. By making a tax-deductible donation to Mises Canada, you will be ensuring the preservation and promotion of the body of knowledge that is Austrian Economics. If you wish to set up a recurring donation, please consider becoming a member of Mises Canada.
The mission of Mises Canada is to:
- Encourage placing human choice at the centre of economic theory;
- Revive the practice of critical historical research;
- Advance the Misesian tradition of thought;
- Defend the market economy, private property, sound money, and peaceful international relations.
Mises Canada also accepts in-kind donations of property and there are certain tax advantages to supporting us in this manner. Normally any transfer of property to another party triggers a tax liability on the accrued gains. The following types of property are eligible for special treatment when donated to a registered charity.
Gifts of Publicly Listed Securities
Any stock, bond or other financial instrument that is publicly traded on a designated exchange is eligible for a capital gains inclusion rate of 0%. This means that the donor receives a tax receipt for the fair market value of the securities, while at the same time not triggering any tax on the capital gains the securities had accrued.
Gifts of Other Property
Bitcoin, real-estate, non-publicly traded securities, art and other collectibles will trigger a capital gain when donated. The donor has the option of choosing the value of the donation, which can be up to its fair market value or as low as its original cost. In this way the donor has control over how much of a gain is realized for tax purposes and it could be as little as zero. The donor receives a tax receipt for the value they elected to use.
Please contact us to make any in-kind donations. The Ludwig von Mises Institute of Canada is a Registered Charity (#81905 0113 RR0001) issuing tax-deductible receipts. For the most recent tax treatment of donations, donors are encouraged to consult the CRA’s publications on charities and giving. Together, we can build a better organization and achieve our shared goals.
